What’s the process of getting a crown?

Before the milling machine technology came around, getting a crown took 2-3 appointments and required a notoriously uncomfortable temporary crown. Thanks to new techniques and technology, getting your crown is easier than ever.

Treatment

Examining and preparing the tooth

At an earlier appointment, your tooth would have been examined and identified as a candidate for a crown. The tooth may have decay, a large filling, a root canal or a crack. At the crown appointment, we will anesthetize the area, and prepare the tooth to receive the crown.

Shaping the Crown

Once your tooth has been prepared, we will make a highly accurate digital impression of your mouth. We no longer require impressions or the use of trays. This 3D scan is used to create a digital model of your mouth, which we will use to design your crown. Your porcelain crown is then made while you wait with our in-house milling machine.

Placing the Crown

We will try the crown in and make a few adjustments to ensure that it feels right and fits well. Your new crown will be cemented in place right away. No second appointment or temporary crown is needed. After a final polish, your new crown is ready for use.

The Cost of Same-Day Crowns in Markham

With insurance in Markham, your same-day dental crown might cost you around $200 to $600. Without insurance, the cost is closer to $800 or even $1,300. The total price varies from patient to patient because each case is influenced by different factors.

What determines the cost of your same-day crown?

  • Which tooth needs the crown
  • Whether you need other treatments or procedures to prepare your tooth to get a crown
  • The number of dental crowns you need
  • Whether your crown is a part of a multi-unit restoration, like a dental bridge
